SBD Dauntless ‘White C 46’

SBD Dauntless ‘White C 46’ 1/48

During World War II, a large number of aircraft were transferred by naval service from an aircraft carrier to a land base. One of these was the C 46. Particularly different in weather conditions, the SBD Dauntless C46. Color fading and wear is an interesting challenge for an experienced modeler. Choosing the 1/48 kit was a one-way street. The ACCURATE MINIATURE kit is extremely good with lots of detail.
The only problem it ran into was when I tried to glue the fuselage with the wings on the bottom. It doesn’t have a good fit at this point, with the exception of this little issue with the kit. It remains very good and I recommend it without any reservation!

Coloration:
For the interior of the cockpit I chose the cockpit floor not dark green MRP-229 and the rest of the cockpit interior green MRP-131< a i=2>I applied MRP varnish to the model and applied the decals. The C-46 was easy to find from the stock of the other decal kits. I repeated the process with matte varnish a second time and in this way I sealed the entire surface of the model. The wet part was done with painting oil, in brown and black. Finally I added sand. I painted only one cover and the top engine cover with Sea blue MRP -014 For the top surface I chose MRP. -356 Gris bleu clair, and each panel, the configuration with MRP-133 Bleu Gray and MRP-357 Gris bleu foncetelos.
After I closed the model and sealed with minimal liquid putty, the next stage was to go over the bottom surface with MRP-134 Light Grey.

Base:
My thought, to get a more realistic effect, was to put the SBD Dauntless in a diorama on some atoll. I copied the colors from the clothes of the two pilots (Verlinden figures), as they are in the photos. The earth was made with the help of Light Earth AK8021 – AK Interactive. For the best scene of the whole diorama, I placed some barrels, an old oil tank from an F4u and an officer, watching the take-off, standing under a palm tree, which is made from a pine branch and hand created the leaves of the tree.
