Kittyhawk Bronco
The “Dystopian Bronco” A… Call from the Future
Background & Inspiration
The scenario is set in the year 2039, after a hypothetical Third World War in the Persian Gulf. Oil shortages and a nuclear catastrophe have plunged the planet into a post-apocalyptic nightmare of desolation, famine, and scarce fuel—the new “gold.” In this fluid reality, air transport has become a primary form of survival
The inspiration for the transformation of the OV-10 Bronco into the “Dystopian Bronco” came from the idea of a sinister, distorted, and over-engineered aircraft—a plane that combines a fluid, imaginative future with extensive technical detail.
Materials & Parts
The creator, Jamie “Haggis”, utilized a variety of aftermarket and scratch-built components to transform the model:
Engines: Aires R2800
Wheels/Rims: Live Resin Wrangler Humvee wheels
Cannon: Live Resin 20mm rotary cannon
For realism: Albion Alloys tubing, Master .5 Cal barrel, Voyager oil barrels
Cockpit: Hobby Boss WMIK symbol, Airscale photo-etch bits
Masking & Weathering: Miracle Masks for the… skull motifs, Ammo of Mig Scratch Effects, Alclad Hogwash wash
First Steps
Cockpit: Plastic rod, worn grips, cable reinforcements and details on the rear cockpit with WMIK seat and Albion tubing.
Paint & Weathering: Alclad black base coat, with mixture steel and buff for undercoat. Scratch effects wash and Zinc Chromate paint applied with a sharp chlorimet. Then intense weathering with Ammo washes and mainly chipping on the nose gear
Aircraft Construction
The engines were changed to a piston engine piece—designed as a new inlet with extra cockpit levers
The nose wheel was chipped and washed for a realistic version after stress.
Laterally, racks for Jerry Cans were formed from Albion tubing and photo-etched, adding cargo/overland aesthetics
Final Thoughts
The “Dystopian Bronco” is a departure from the usual builds. It is a post-apocalyptic “what-if” project, where construction craftsmanship, metalworking detail and a post-apocalypse scene meet. The use of “living” parts and realistic paints transforms the classic Bronco into a survival vehicle—a “flying war rig,” with character and history.
Conclusion
The combination of: https://haggismodels.blogspot.com/

a dense history in the setting,
a natural inclination towards weathered realism,
and excellent mounting from aftermarket materials,
has created a model that goes beyond scale modeling and achieves an effect of “exposition, narrative, character.” A tribute to technical detail and artistic storytelling.
