F-4E super Phantom II SRA 68-424

In 1990 the USA as part of its reduction in defense spending, the USAF proceeded to reduce its aircraft fleet. Thus, 28 F-4E aircraft of the Indiana National Guard were granted to Greece under the name SRA (Southeastern Regional Agreement). These aircraft were recently upgraded and featured the Advanced Navigation and Weapons Delivery System (NWDS) which made them almost equal, in ground attack capabilities, to third generation aircraft. These aircraft joined the 338 M

One of 28 F-4E Super Phantom II SRAs is also ( 68-424 ) It has a single windshield and is factory certified in this configuration. All SRAs came to Greece in the Hill Gray variant.

The 424 presents interesting data modeling precisely because of that one-piece windshield, and if you want details on this plane you’ll find them in the photos I’ve listed here.

The one-piece windshield was adopted primarily for its improved resistance to bird strikes. Removing the center window frames did not significantly improve visibility due to the already crowded forward view with the gun, VCR, RWR, sun shield, etc. In fact, the detailed write up on it said that the new installation used a wider dome arc which actually reduced the viewing area overall.

In December 2005, the 337th Airlift Wing was temporarily suspended due to the retirement of the F-4 SRA fighter aircraft. Since 1992, they have undergone two modernization programs. The granted aircraft were initially placed in the 338 MDB which belongs to the force of the 117 PM based in Andravida and in the period 1997-1998 they were given for operational use to the 337 MPK.
